The Dope Pointers should be producers and not Rappers. Rappers are to argumentive when it comes to wuts hot and wuts not. Producers are looking for chemistry which should play a big part in a Dope Point decision.

As far as the rating system goes, I think the some of the people who run Dopetracks (chali2na?) should try to rate a certain amount of tracks on a weekly or monthly basis and maybe post the results in a blog. I know there’s MAAD shit on this site. I thnk the category thing works well as long as every1 is placed correctly. Have a way for us to submit trax/beats for review and post results on the front page.. just my ideas… and I AM a lil smoked out rite now… any opinions??

I like the 5 star rating, but ten is better. I took it kinda hard (for like three seconds) when Leo put 3.5 on a track of mine, but it would be 7 out of 10 so that sounds better, doesn’t it? It would force people possibly to have to really listen to a song before leaving a score because it will be obvious they didn’t if they say 10 when we all can plainly see it’s six.

It could just be an optional thing. A dope point is like pass/fail, and then additionally a score would be like an actual grade.

We came up with this shit when it had no other choice to be real. Wasnt no platinum status, niggas was lucky to get a gold record. In hiphop everybody to busy thinkin they this or that and its fucked up. Ask a young mc today who they favorite is and you’ll probably hear Wayne or somebody.. hiphop doesnt respect its past. Being that I’ve worked in a field that services the music community in NYC, I’ve spoken to Preem about hiphop, I’ve spoken to Red, KayGee, Hank Shocklee, (google him if ya don’t know) I saw hiphop grow from an infant to what it is today.. I still love hiphop, always will but honestly most of this bullshit on Hot97 or whatever your hiphop station is NOT hiphop no matter how many times flex drop bombs on that shit. Gonna be real quick cos i wanna move onto the next blog now.
1. the way DT is now, if you want the frontpage or the big exposure, its about points and that means its about promotion. The people with the big point tracks are/were big promoters (grip, dub, kastor, double0 etc). Everyone knows DCure is real nice but he doesn’t promote so doesn’t get much exposure. Sure the ones that know them know this, but the new cats don’t. Grip used to be able to fart on the mic and get to the front, but i think he’d have to work hard for it now. (Unfortunately, none of this is about the actual music). Yo, it’s like real business___some of you happy with cool boutique stores in a cool part of the city, some want to be WalMart. I’m Starbucks.

2. Nobody will trust a front picked by people… I think there should be a mixture of ‘top spots’: some hand-picked ones by judges, charts for different styles (eg. a collabo chart, a chart purely like spitting through the DT recorder etc, an alternative, a freestyle maybe.. the list could go on for days), a special chart for nubes (that have been joined for less than a couple of weeks for example) so the young ones can get some decent exposure. There are always gonna be improvements, but if we work with what we got now, we got a chart based on points, and you get points by promoting. sucks, but there are 300+ tracks a day and thats just the deal.

3. This blog post was more about feedback/ the value of feedback, and how we should do it if dopepoints isn’t satisfactory. I know keeping wack of the front is connected, but only 10 places on the front and thousands of people. If its just about getting to the front you got a lot of unhappy people. So either the front has to change or we gotta get more satisfaction out of just doing our thing and getting feedback and getting better. Doing music here has made me work harder and get a lot better. I appreciate that front page or not. I think better feedback (like Leo’s marks out of five type deal for example) is cool.

I’m saying amen to that! I do my best to check out every track that someone links into my inbox.. but I am not just another dope for doper. I dope if I feel it, and if not I will politely state my peace. I think that if I am expected to take my time and listen to a track bc some one asked me to, then I am entitled to my opinion. Being honest and being rude are two different things. I pride myself in being a lady, I will not be unnecessarily rude.. but I can guarantee I am not the one if you are just looking for another dope for dope.

Another thing, if the track is weak why would someone be biggin it up? It makes me wonder is this all that artist is capable of? Personally I have never asked someone to check my tracks or dope me.. That is because I will not waste people’s time like that. When I have something ill and I know it, then I’ll promote. And you can take this to the bank, I am here for critique. I will never trip on some constructive criticism. But if you wanna get rude, we can take it to the beats.
