City Battle? + DT MAP!!
Is it me or is DT kinda weird at the moment? I’ve been tied up with mixtapes and work stuff so I haven’t been on as much as I’d like, but something feels strange around here. I got to thinking, why isn’t anyone smiling? I had a little look and gradually found a few…
(beathic, hubus, shay {check her new song, its nice}, kokome, chris baynes, but I’m not sure if he’s smiling) .
So anyway, I figured people seem frustrated. I thought about how sometimes you need an argument or fight to vent it, so I starting planning how I could stir some shit up… and then I found this sample - “Ain’t nobody straight in LA, seems like everybody is gay“. OK, yeah, might as well annoy DT’s home city*. Why not try to get people to battle against each others cities. I always thought LA vs Chi Town would be a hot battle (Trilogy, Don, Storming Norman?!).
But then I played it to a few people and kinda got the impression that it wasn’t the sort of thing that you could do lightly. Like it would have to turn into some big beef. I can’t be bothered with all the ‘take it to the streets’ shit, so I scraped that plan. But still, I figured it would be good if we could get a little mixtape of tracks repping each of the major cities or states. I’ve been planning to do blog posts profiling various cities and countries (UK, Australia etc), so if any of you wanna do a collabo with people in your city get at me and we’ll do a blog post on your city. I think Matteb is thinking about an Australia one. What about Canada? New York? NC/SC? London/UK? Texaaaaas?….
LA?*I should mention that I’m really not being homophobic at all with this ‘everybody is gay’ track - I’m taking the playground use of the word. My dog is gay. This picture of the L.A. branch of the Cavaliers Gay Motorbike club shouldn’t offend anyone on DT. In fact, I have almost certainly seen one of those faces before on DT, I’m sure. Any gay emcees on DT, holla at me.

I sent a beat to Killa Kain already to get a Chicago collab going (Dion P’s beat). I’m in NYC, and I’ll definitely be doing more with CeaseNY, Sickle Cellz and Sino. Looking towards the idea of perfoming together, as well.
Thats a real cool idea. Don’t think there are any other users in Hobart, Tasmania though. lol. However, there’s a good chance I’ll be moving to Brisbane soon (pop. 1.5 mil) so maybe there are some there. The country thing is also a good idea. I’ve noticed some Aussie’s floatin around here. Shit man, put me down for Canada & Australia. I usually spend about a month of the year in Canada and thats where I was brought up. Great idea KK. I also like the idea of competitions. Maybe each city/country realease something and have some sort or tournament or something.

yeah maybe taht coudl work but it might be harder for to organize… i figured cities or areas where people link up in person or at least are from similar area would be easier to do… to be honest, i cant be bothered with managing something like this… its like the awards., i either suggest it and let it roll or i do it properly, and doing it properly will take ages. if y’all what to set up east/west mid groups etc thats cool too.. whatever is easiest. even if someone does (for example) a westcoast one, someone will still do a LA one, a san fran one etc… i say spend less time organizing and more time just doing. grab the people around you. just do what feels natural. as long as it doesnt involve hurting animals or children. or foreheads.

*THE PLAN* yo errrrbody, this is looking like its got enough support, so maybe we should do this? i’ve tried to organize lots of competitions or projects on DT and to be honest its too much damn work, y’all just do wht u want anyway. so here’s my plan. if you wanna do a local collabo pull it together. choose your boundary - it can be city, state, area, coast, country, whatever. i personaly think city is best but honestly, whatever you want. ideally the beat (samples etc) will have some link to the place but again that isnt a rule, just a suggestion.

I do everything I can, in what i would like to see in rap, in my own music, and people here, that I admire, like it. The ones that I liked, even if they hated my stuff, but so far, most of the ones I liked did like my stuff.
If alot of people liked it, I would suspect I was doing stuff geared toward mainstream radio, which is what alot of DT sounds like. Not that that is bad, but it doesn’t get my vibrations going enough.
You put together good mixtapes of other people’s music, but I didn’t really get what you do, unless that is it. A DJ, mixer?
But a DJ/mixer isn’t really a musician.
