The Ryo 1 Regionals

Yooo! What up all DTer’s! This is a small segment of how I came around to listening to and taking part in what has become a culture named Hip-Hop. Growing up with two older brothers that were living the culture, it felt like I was living a Hip-Hop dream, yet unknowingly I was in on the brink of Hip-Hop blowin up. While I matured into this lifestyle by finding and understanding the freshest music, clothing, dance and spray paints, it has made me who I am now. Here is something fresh and who was ahead of their time. I’m introducing The Nonce. Look up more on The Nonce here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Nonce. To listen to some of their rare tracks, click on this link - profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=123755145 Also, to watch a video of their single, “Mixtapes”, on youtube, click on this link - www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfsxCxwzR0k I was introduced to them in the early to mid 90’s through friends, mixtapes and other Hip-Hop groups The Nonce would hang out with back then, such as Freestyle Fellowship. Also local L.A. Hip-Hop spots like The Good Life, which pretty much turned into Project Blow now. What makes them dope to me is their style which makes them who they are. Their style was West Coast; chill, head bobbin, smooth shit. All their beats were on point, a very classic sound that could be heard as a modern beat in this generation. All their tracks have a bounce that keeps your head nodding. What made them even better was that they weren’t as known, which made their tracks feel exclusive. So, for people to know of them, they had to have their mixtapes or been hanging around the The Blow. But the time is now, and their legacy is left for us to enjoy and spread. R.I.P Yusef Afloat Hit me, TheRyo1, with a message on what Hip-Hop groups that you think are slept on from your region. Also comment on The Nonce. Tell me what UUU think. PEACE, The Ryo 1

wow ryo, that youtube click is slick.. love that. sounds like my original fav, CASUAL from hierogliphics. never heard Nonce before… they prolly wouldn’t have gone down that well in the UK becuase of the name: a Nonce is prison slang (and now mainstream slang) for peadophile or sex offender LOL.
.
from a US perspective, pretty much ALL my town is slept on, but US cats gotta hear Dizzee Rascal, Lady Stush, demolition Man (all from my neck of the woods), but the best from London overall is still Roots Manuva - kinda thanks to chali, he’s got some noize in US.
.
great post!

I hear ya man. So much good music gets slept on my the masses. I grew up in Canada and Classified has been doin it big there for ever. He’s about my age 28 and has dropped about 13 albums (starting back when he was in high school). This dude has won Canadian underground artist of the year 7 times. In addition to this he makes his own beats, which are doper than half the kats in the hip hop game now. And in an industry that is suffering a serious ‘image problem’(bling, guns, bitches, etc) this kat is as real as they come! IF YA HAVENT HEARD EM PEEP THIS KATS MUSIC: http://www.myspace.com/hiphopclassified
I know a few DTers who probably are probably fans of classified (Leo B Dope, Black 92 Ice). Where the rest of ya at?

Who made this?
We did! Dopetracks was created by a small band of music lovers. We think that there is so much talent out there that needs to be heard. We built dopetracks from the ground up to level the playing field by letting budding bedroom MCs and Producers have a shot at being heard by the world.
