People are finally beginning to drop some rhymes for the Suzuki Busa Beats Emcee Battle. Looks like one of the these two guys below is gonna win the Hayabusa bike unless everyone on DT steps up and get on the recorder. You’ve got pretty good odds of winning a brand new bike! Keep dreamin about the downloadable beats. Suzuki wants it recorded online. Makes no sense to wait either since you’ll have to get some people voting for your track… You’ve only got until August 22nd. Check out a couple of decent entries that are leading the challenge so far. http://www.dopetracks.com/Suzuki-BusaBeats-Emcee-Battle.html

Yooo! What up all DTer’s! This is a small segment of how I came around to listening to and taking part in what has become a culture named Hip-Hop. Growing up with two older brothers that were living the culture, it felt like I was living a Hip-Hop dream, yet unknowingly I was in on the brink of Hip-Hop blowin up. While I matured into this lifestyle by finding and understanding the freshest music, clothing, dance and spray paints, it has made me who I am now. Here is something fresh and who was ahead of their time. I’m introducing The Nonce. Look up more on The Nonce here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Nonce. To listen to some of their rare tracks, click on this link - profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=123755145 Also, to watch a video of their single, “Mixtapes”, on youtube, click on this link - www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfsxCxwzR0k I was introduced to them in the early to mid 90’s through friends, mixtapes and other Hip-Hop groups The Nonce would hang out with back then, such as Freestyle Fellowship. Also local L.A. Hip-Hop spots like The Good Life, which pretty much turned into Project Blow now. What makes them dope to me is their style which makes them who they are. Their style was West Coast; chill, head bobbin, smooth shit. All their beats were on point, a very classic sound that could be heard as a modern beat in this generation. All their tracks have a bounce that keeps your head nodding. What made them even better was that they weren’t as known, which made their tracks feel exclusive. So, for people to know of them, they had to have their mixtapes or been hanging around the The Blow. But the time is now, and their legacy is left for us to enjoy and spread. R.I.P Yusef Afloat Hit me, TheRyo1, with a message on what Hip-Hop groups that you think are slept on from your region. Also comment on The Nonce. Tell me what UUU think. PEACE, The Ryo 1

Wow, it seems like only a few months ago that we were talking about DT hitting the big five zero, but here we are on the cusp of 100,000! I won’t bore you with another rundown of the hits on the big number (go look for yourself, its largely disappointing), but double0negro got the 50,000 (now made private).

Lets make sure that the big 100k is impressive… maybe a few cats want to get together and get something sick there… maybe it’s just a number and it doesn’t matter, but it does make me kinda proud to think that we got there. If the average track is about tywo and a half minutes, that’s 173 straight days of listening… almost half a year!! Man, that should be the new sentence for murder.

PS: Next up I’m doing a profile of DT crews & clans… all y’all clan leaders get at me with what you got on youtube, myspace etc etc. I wanna see how DT clans are breaking out of DT.

PPS: check this cool vid by Silvatung for his “fa da boys” track:

PPPS: Check the latest beef between Realstyles and daSirKnowledgex. It’s looking like a good one. Oh yeah and while you’re at it, might as well check out his clans video… - sounding good yo!

PPPS: the forums are real fly at the moment.. I’ve hardly been looking into any music, I just been chewing fat with the deetz. Probably the best one was when Sheriff KDUBZ called out danatiboys for uploading fake beats and ghosting. Well spotted Dubz. Someone get that man a badge.

First off, apologies to anyone who has emailed or messaged me, I’ve been totally off DT for a while (more than two weeks… a record!) because I’ve been away on holiday. I don’t know if any of you have heard about this big old volcano that has erupted in Chile? Well, I’m quite close to that and the city I’m in has been covered in ash and I’m stranded!!! So I figured I’d get to doing a new blog and a new track…. But still I cant hear stuff cos the internet in Argentina is so slow, so it will take me a little while to get commenting.

So, this morning I woke up to the radio playing standard hip hop charts and latest tunes. It was a Spanish station but a fair chunk of it was American hip hop. My first thought was “screw this, I’d rather be listening to my Deetz”. (oh yeah, I’ve been calling us Deetz, because I can’t be bothered to write/say ‘people on DT’ all the time). Now, if you think about it, that’s kinda messed up. Why would I want to listen to a bunch of amateurs making music in their bedrooms, when there is a whole industry of professionals with slick-ass equipment, teams of writers and musicians and time to be thinking about making music full time?

Don’t get me wrong – not everything on the radio sucks. I don’t believe anyone that says they hate everything on the radio, because a lot of the most inspirational artists get plenty of airplay and there always the odd pop hip pop track that finds it’s way into your heart (come on, who doesn’t like Kelis?). But because we know what we like and we all like GOOD MUSIC, it’s frustrating when you hear some plastic hip hop clones make plastic hip hop… and those fraudsters get PAID for it!

I’m not saying that if the radio suddenly started playing DT music it would be good. Let’s face it; if most of the music that we hear on DT came on the radio, we’d probably wet ourselves laughing. Even the frontpage stuff would often make you switch channels if you were in your car. But I think that because most of us who listen to this music are also making the music, we’re part of the process. Even if we don’t know the other people on DT, we know of them. And we kinda have an idea of what they might be like, even if we are totally wrong about them, they are a character in the world of DT. (In fact, I often see DT world as a bunch of cartoon characters… is anyone real out there? Dominion… when you gonna do a DT cartoon??).

We kinda know what we’re gonna get when we click on a track by Grip, Stripez, Seoul etc etc.. all the deetz who keep putting tracks out. Of course, sometimes we’ll get a surprise, but you get what I mean. That part is not really different from the radio. Some people you like, some you don’t. But another thing that makes DT more enjoyable than the radio is the progression. You see people learn and get better. No offence Skittles, but you were lame when you started out, but every time I listen to your tracks I’m like, ‘damn, this is getting hot’. There’s a lot of cats like that. Hell, I think EVERYONE seems to have gotten better – I know I have. We all push each other because we all wanna be better than the next man/woman.

Plus there are artists and tracks on DT that I honestly think are better than a lot of what I hear on the radio. Maybe it’s slightly because they are a little bit rough and raw, and because we feel closer to the music because we’re part of it, but some stuff just IS better. I get to hear that on the kkrunch tapes and it’s obvious. Make sure you keep tabs, someone has to blow soon, no?
